  More about Vizslas

How to say vizsla sounds like veezshla

*Vizslas have a short, sleek coat that requires minimal grooming.  They do shed. The coat is an attractive golden rust color.  The tail is normally docked to two-thirds of the original length.

*They are very good at alerting you to anybody coming to the door.  However, they can be loud and rowdy and must be taught not to jump on guests.

*They are generally very good with considerate children and are naturally protective of them.  However, young children should not be left unsupervised with any dog.

*They are excellent jogging and walking companions.  THIS BREED MUST HAVE A LOT OF EXERCISE -- after all, they were breed to be active hunting dogs.  Not only are they great pointers, but they are excellent retrievers as well.

*Average life span is about 12 years to 15 years.  It stands between 21 to 24 in. high at the shoulders and weighs between 40 to 60 lbs.

*They are very playful and will invent games to play with you; they do not lose their love of life as they age.

*The Vizsla makes a good hunting companion.  It is a strong swimmer and also retrieves well from water.  The Vizsla is one of the most versatile breeds in the world.  The first triple champion (show, field and obedience) in the history of the American Kennel Club was a Vizsla.

*They are a fun loving, gentle, very affectionate and sensitive dog that loves to retrieve and carry things.  A word of caution: this includes your shoes, clothes, and toys.

*They love to go with you anytime, anyplace and anywhere.

*They are very sensitive and affectionate, and they want to be touching you when they lie down - thus nicknamed "velcro dog". They are intelligent, easy to train and want to please.  The Vizsla has a huge desire to be close to human.  Vizsla's reach their full potential when allowed to live as true family members.

*The Vizslas were companion dogs of the early Kings and aristocracy and held in high esteem by their owner.  For centuries, only the nobles were allowed to keep them.  They were used for general-purpose hunting dogs though Vizslas are the best as upland bird dogs, where its excellent scenting and retrieving characteristics have been widely acclaimed.
